(CNN) -- Separate attacks killed nine members of Afghan security forces on Monday, including two national army staff members who were shot to death at the Afghan Defense Ministry compound in Kabul, authorities said.
That attack happened before a scheduled meeting between French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet and Afghan military officials. The meeting has since been canceled. Longuet was not inside the building when the attack took place, according to a French Defense Ministry spokesman.
A gunman in a military uniform entered the Defense Ministry compound and opened fire with an AK-47, ministry officials said. The attacker was shot and killed before he could detonate an explosive device he brought with him, officials said.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mojahed said the attack was carried out by one of the group's fighters, who had joined the Afghan National Army.
The fatal attack was the second in three days in which an assailant used an Afghan army uniform to get inside a military facility and kill soldiers. On Saturday, a suicide bomber dressed in uniform entered a military base in Laghman Province in eastern Afghanistan and killed five foreign soldiers and four Afghan army recruits.
In a separate attack, a roadside bomb explosion killed seven police officers Monday in the Ghazni province of central Afghanistan, the provincial governor, Musakhan Ajmalzada, said.
A police vehicle struck the bomb in the Perakia village of the province's Khogiani district at about 9:30 a.m., he said.
